Franconia Notch State Park, NH Just head up I-93 past Lincoln NH to the Cannon Mtn. Tramway exit. This is also a good day trip. Go up the Tram ($8/adult) and have lunch at the top. Walk up to the observation tower. Then once back out in the parking lot head left (North) past the Ski Museum (also neat- $1), to the Echo Lake boat launch ramp. Please smaller boats only, this is a fragile area. Best to go with energy efficient engines or electrics. Cruise/fish the lake (the State stocks it with trout). Stop at the snack bar on the North end. Go swimming (cold- all spring fed). Maybe rent a paddle boat on a canoe, WHEW- I'm tired already. But it's not over yet. Your still going by Profile Lake (profile of the Old Man of course) once heading South on I-93. You can put in there too. Did you know this was the headwaters of the Pemigewassett River? On the way home get off at exit 32 and head to the Woodstock Tavern for dinner. The kids will be asleep two more exits down the road home.
As you're cruising Echo Lake stop by and get out to try the old megaphone!!!!
Yes, it works really well. And no batteries required
Echo Lake still supports a large population of crayfish. The trout love 'em.
That's it for Franconia Notch State Park. Next week something new.
