Winnisquam Marine Employee - 2006 Pemi Canoe Trip
It's the annual Winnisquam Marine Employee Canoe Trip. Every year the group travels up to Ski Fanatics in Campton, NH (just off exit 28) to rent canoe's and kayak's. We then paddle the Pemigewasset River. A great time for all- man, women or dog.
Pat braves the rock slide for a quick entry in the Pemi
Much to Duke's amazement, Pat does surface- and we're hoping Pat comes back next year to help us out at Winnisquam Marine.
Part of the group get's set for the river. Sandy, Ben, Ryan, Pat, Jake, Matt, Craig, Paul and Brandon.
Ben, Nat, Steve, Chris, Jake, Sandy, Matt and Ryan drifting. Good in a canoe- Bad in your new Four Winns.
The Pemi is really clean. Mostly a sandy bottom. All flat water, no rapids. Very easy and safe to paddle. Our trip can be done in 2-3 hours. We mostly drift and it took us 7 hours. Luckily we're much faster at the Marina. Here's a typical view !!!
Sheila hooks onto Duke for some free assist down the river. Duke swam/ran most of the way, about 6 miles. Ryan (the Dukemaster) says Duke passed out early that evening.
Duke in action. He has almost the same top speed as our new all yellow Four Winns 210 Signature Series. He says if you like his vest, we stock them in the showroom. Of course Duke swims well, but with a doggie vest on- we didn't have to worry about the Dukester as much !!
Man (nor dog) cannot paddle all day without food. So Sheila and Sandy whipped up a feast for all. Ben, Matt, Craig, Matt, Brandon, Ryan, Sandy, Brutus and Sheila break for lunch. The weather was great after a pretty disappointing Labor Day Weekend. We're all hopping for some better boating weekends soon. The late summer can be great.
Chris, Sandy, Pat, Brandon, Craig and Ryan break too. Speaking of breaks- Pat almost broke his neck going down that bolder in his kayak. Hopefully his mom doesn't see these pictures... or else a couple more bones might be broken.
Ed holds down Duke (Ed's granddog) while everybody eats. Duke loves it.
Back on the river, Paul and Brandon take the lead...
Sandy and Ryan follow. Ryan has had this electric motor for about 10 years and it works great on the Pemi. He did hit a rock while backing up this year and lost 1 full prop blade. For awhile it was looking like he was going to have to paddle. But- he babied that one remaining blade very carefully, and made it last the rest of the trip.
Ed and Steve hope you've enjoyed the trip. Ski Fanatics is definitely the place to rent kayaks for the Pemi trip. Don and Deb are great business owners who know customer service. Don is also probably the best ski boot fitter in the area. Call them at 603-726-4327. Exit 28 off I-93. The Waterville Valley Ski Area exit.
